Advanced Map Layers

Advanced Map Layers are an easy way to get information beyond what's shown on our basic Map Types. You can access Advanced Map Layers in the mobile app while planning a route in the Mobile Route Planner, on the Mobile Explore page, or when you're viewing any rides or routes.

To toggle on an Advanced Map Layer, simply tap the Map Options icon in the bottom left hand corner of the map view, and then tap on any of the Layers options to toggle them on or off. When a layer is active, its icon will be outlined in red.

Unpaved Cycling layer

This map layer allows you to locate any trails or roads with unpaved surfaces when viewing the map. When this layer is active, unpaved surfaces are highlighted in yellow.  Unpaved information is updated weekly from OSM.

This data is updated on a weekly basis, so any changes made to Open Street Map's surface types will be reflected on the map shortly! Only trails and roads that allow cycling are highlighted with this map layer. Dedicated hiking trails will not be shown on this map layer.

Pro Tip: Use the Unpaved Cycling layer in tandem with the Inspect tool to quickly find routes that use a specific unpaved road or trail.
