Your Data, Our Community
We believe that you own your ride and route data. It’s your right to add, delete, import, export, sync, move, privatize, port, or post the rides and routes that belong to you. We’re just stoked to be along for the ride as your platform of choice.
Be mindful: anything you save publicly on our site is just that - public. Anyone on the internet can view or interact with public rides and routes, and they can be surfaced in Explore. We may also leverage public route and rides for recommendations, reviews, or map layers (like community data and our heatmaps). If you’d rather opt out, or adjust privacy on a case-by-case basis, learn more about our privacy offerings.
When you join Ride with GPS, you become part of our community. This document sets expectations for your behavior on our platform, to help everyone have a safe and positive experience here.
For additional details on our policies, please refer to our Terms and Conditions.
Start with Respect
- Ride with GPS is a welcoming space for all - period. Any language or behavior that spreads hate or intolerance, discriminates against individuals or groups, or promotes violence has no place here.
- Any use of Ride with GPS that violates local, national, or international laws or regulations is not permitted.
- Respect everyone’s personal sense of safety and right to privacy. Unless you have express consent, don’t share or use anyone’s location data, contacts, images, or other personal information.
- Content that exploits, endangers, targets, or harasses anyone, especially minors, is expressly forbidden.
- Share quality content. We reserve the right to remove spam or explicit content at our discretion.
- Give credit where credit is due. If you benefit from someone else’s intellectual property, don’t misrepresent it as your own.
- Play fair and don’t misrepresent your efforts. No one likes a poor sport.
Recreate Responsibly
- Respect land usage. This means that we do not condone trespassing, publicizing routes that cross private (or otherwise restricted) land, or participating in any types of recreation that are prohibited in certain areas by law (e.g., cycling or riding a moto in federal Wilderness Areas).
- We do our best to prevent route planning into areas where access is not permitted or unsafe, but this is not always predictable. Our routing engine determines what streets, paths, and trails are appropriate for use based on Open Street Maps (OSM). This is a mapping system that collects open source location data. Due to the nature of the service, and the challenges associated with collecting and validating location details throughout the globe, we can’t guarantee accuracy of any routes planned or found within our service.
- Pay it forward. If you encounter something on a ride that isn’t accurately captured by the route you’ve followed, correct the record. If you’ve created the route, you can edit it and update OSM so that others won’t risk a bad ride. If you’ve ridden someone else’s route, comment or leave a review to inform other riders and the route creator.
- Leave no trace. You know the drill - pack it in, pack it out, and give extra care to culturally and/or environmentally significant areas.
Stay Safe Out There
- Cycling and other forms of recreation are inherently unpredictable, and everyone’s risk tolerance is highly personal. Make choices that feel right to you. As always, you’re responsible at all times for your own safety, your actions, and their outcomes.
- You may find that conditions on the ground differ from what you see on a map or route. If you encounter unexpected conditions, surface types, land regulations, or infrastructure, make thoughtful choices about how to proceed.
