Adding Collaborators to a Route

As the owner of a route, you can invite a user to View or Edit a route. Editors will be able to make changes to the route, while Viewers will only be able to view the route without making any changes.

To invite a new collaborator:

  1. View the route on the website and click Share.
  2. In the Add People box, search for one of your friends on Ride with GPS. You can also enter an email address if you're sharing the route with someone who does not have a Ride with GPS account.
  3. Click on their name to add them to the list of collaborators. You can add multiple people at once by searching for additional names or email addresses.
  4. Select if you'd like to make this collaborator a Viewer or Editor.
  5. Click Send to invite your collaborators!

Once your invitation has been sent, anyone invited will receive an email notification and a notification on the Ride with GPS website.

Manage Collaborators

When a route has collaborators, there will be a section showing their profile icons on the route's summary page. Click on these icons to bring up the share modal, where route owners can edit or remove the access of collaborators by clicking the three dots next to their name.

Collaborators in the Route Library

Routes that have collaborators will show an icon indicating this. Whether you've accepted the invitation or invited people to collaborate on to a route, you'll be able to view it in your Route Library

As a collaborator, you can't delete any routes that you don't own. If you select a route and click the Delete button, you will be removed as a collaborator from that route, and it will be removed from your Route Library.

Edit a Shared Route

As an Editor, you can make edits to the route track itself, as well as make any edits to the title, description, privacy levels, and route photos. Premium subscribers can add Points of Interest and Custom Cues. Editors cannot invite new collaborators to the route, but they can share the route with other users.

If you've been added as a Viewer, you can click Edit > Request Edit Access to ask the route owner to add you as an Editor.

Editing a route as a collaborator is the same as editing a route that you own - simply click the Edit button and select the option to Edit in Planner. For more information about editing a route, check out our help articles about using the web Route Planner

When you save a route that has other collaborators or has been saved by another user, you'll be prompted to notify them, if you'd like. You can include a custom note that will be shared with them, as well as added to the item's version history. If you click Skip, no note will be added to the version history.

Version History

The Version History feature allows you to easily reference past saved versions of a route, and any notes that editors have added. You can access the version history by viewing the route on the website and clicking More > Version History

Premium subscribers can click on the three dots next to a past version of the route and select Edit in Planner to open that version of the route in the Route Planner.

Learn more about using the Version History feature at our Version History help article.

Request Access to a Route

If you end up viewing a Private route, you can request access from the route owner. Simply click the Request Access button, and the route owner will be notified. You'll be notified by email and a notification on the Ride with GPS website when your request is approved.
