Curious about the difference between Highlights, Points of Interest, and Waypoints? Check out our help article that breaks down all three of these map elements.
Highlights
Highlights allow you to easily get additional information about popular community points of interest (POI) among the Ride with GPS community. These are built using popular POI and photos found across publicly shared routes. They're great for discovering stops that other riders have found useful, such as coffee shops, viewpoints, water sources, and more. Read on to learn more about viewing Highlights in the Route Planner and Explore page, as well as how to suggest new Highlights.
Highlights in the Route Planner
In the Route Planner, you can toggle Highlights from the Layers menu.
Once toggled on, you’ll see Highlights displayed as round icons scattered around the map.
Click on any Highlight to get more information about it, and see any photos taken nearby. Click "Route to Here" or "Include in Route" to turn this Highlight into a Waypoint and save it to your route.
Highlights on Explore
Highlights are also available on the Explore page. As in the Route Planner, they can be accessed by clicking on the Layers menu and toggling on the Highlights layer. Click on a Highlight on the Explore page, and you can easily Inspect routes nearby the Highlight, or create a new route in the Route Planner with your Highlight incorporated as a Waypoint.
Contribute to Community Highlights
If there’s a great spot in your area that isn’t marked, just right-click in the Route Planner and select Suggest a Highlight to add a new suggestion. When viewing a Highlight, you can also Suggest an Edit recommendation to polish up existing Highlights with your local knowledge, or Request Removal of a Highlight that is inaccurate.
