Record your Trip with the Mobile App

Two taps and you're off! Open the Ride with GPS mobile app, press the Record button at the bottom-center of the screen to open the map, then tap the Start Ride button to begin recording.

The app may take a moment to lock onto your position as the GPS radio in your phone warms up. Once it is locked, you will see a green banner indicating GPS is ready. Wait to get a solid GPS lock before you start riding. Your current location will show on the map as a blue dot.

If auto-pause is enabled, you will see a grey Auto-Paused: Move to Record banner appear at the top of the screen when you have a GPS lock, rather than the GPS READY banner. Enabling Auto-Pause on your rides will automatically pause your recording when you stop moving for breaks and stops, preventing unwanted recording on your track line.

Customize your Dashboard

Change the metrics that are shown when you record by pressing and holding a metric that you want to replace. Then choose from the list of available metrics to see this populate on your dashboard. Swipe right to reveal a second page of metrics. You can also tap the triangle icon on the right-hand side of your metrics display to view all top 8 metrics in full-screen mode.

  2. Tap the re-center option to move the map back to your current location.
  3. View the map in full screen or zoom in/out to see more or less of the map and the recorded track line.

To enable auto-rotate, tap the compass icon on the map. When the compass turns black, auto-rotate will be active, and as you start moving forward, the map will orient itself to your position and heading. When you're standing still, the screen will rotate based on your phone's orientation.

To disable auto-rotate and return to North-Up, tap the compass again.

FAQ

My activity recording stopped mid-activity. How can I fix this?

  • Generally, this is due to your phone's battery optimization settings interfering with the Ride with GPS app. We generally see this issue on Android devices, and this setting can be reset to conserve battery after a system update. On an Android device, follow these steps to change your battery optimization settings:
    • Tap Settings on your phone.
    • Tap Apps
    • Find Ride with GPS in this list, tap on Ride with GPS
    • Tap Battery
    • Select Unrestricted to allow battery usage in background

I'm seeing straight lines or excessively high speeds in my recording. Why is this happening, and what can I do?

  • This is also generally caused by your phone's battery optimization settings. Follow the steps outlined above to change your phone's settings.

I forgot to stop my recording after my activity. Can I clean this up?

  • Premium users have the ability to use our Activity Clean Up tools, which you can use to trim your activity recording and remove any accidental portions.

I finished my activity and saved it, but it still says "Awaiting Upload." How can I get my ride to upload?

  • If you're having issues getting your activities to upload to your Ride with GPS account, this is generally due to a lack of reliable internet connection. Try switching to a known good wifi network, or using your phone's mobile network connection if it is reliable. Once you've established a good network connection, you can trigger a fresh sync by viewing your Activities tab in the mobile app and pulling your finger down to refresh.

My elevation data doesn't match what I'd expect to see! Why is it different?

  • Elevation data in the RWGPS app is recorded based on your phone's altimeter, which measures the barometric pressure and uses that to establish an elevation recording. There are a number of things that can affect the readings by your phone's altimeter, including if your phone is placed in a pocket or bag. You can learn more about this here: Grade, Elevation, and GPS Accuracy FAQ.
